The Lightness of Water
Digital Print on boat window
65 x 55,5 cm
The deeper we descend beneath the sea, the more the world shifts into shades of blue. Red light is the first to disappearunderwater, and what once glows with vivid warmth becomes muted, swallowed by depth. On land, a similar fading occurs: when red pigments are exposed to sunlight for too long, they lose their strength and gradually turn blue.In this work, I juxtapose these two realities—underwater perception and solar exposure—by replicating a seabed of coral reefs. I intentionally render the corals in their true orange tones, then print the image as a poster resembling atourist photo backdrop.
Throughout the exhibition, the print is left under direct sunlight, its colors slowly bleaching away. This process mirrors the fragile fate of coral reefs: overexposure, whether to rising temperatures, sunlight, or human intrusion, leads not only to fading but to endangerment. What begins as an image for memory becomes a reminder of loss.
